Gallery 15 - Eric Hawley Reception
Gallery 15 will hold a reception for Burns Paiute artist Eric Hawley on Saturday, March 10 from 3:00 to 6:00PM. Refreshments will be served.
This celebration will open an exhibit of 20 new oil paintings featuring mostly local landscapes (and a not-to-be-missed ocean scene). Hawley was one of the artists in our popular Native American exhibit last year and is a member of Gallery 15.
Hawley was born and raised in Harney County, and credits his art teachers, among them Frank Tuning of Burns High School and Don Bailey of Chemawa, for not just teaching him the fundamentals of painting but also helping him develop freedom of expression. With passion he relates the opportunities they gave him to see original paintings of some of the old masters, such as Cezanne.
After putting aside his painting for several years, Eric is re-engaged, finding inspiration in his home territory and even his work environment, such as Logan Valley, where he works with Fish and Wildlife for the Tribe. Hawley enjoys painting quickly to capture the fleeting moments he sees in the landscape.
Gallery 15, featuring Eastern Oregon fine art and gifts, is located at 76 East Washington Street, just off Broadway in Burns, and winter hours (through March) are 11:00 – 3:00, Wednesday through Saturday.
